10 Signs That Show You Are An Obsessive Partner

Appreciating your partner and showing them you truly love them in more ways than one are really good. However, it is unhealthy to obsess over your partner with the excuse that you are in love. Obsessing over your partner does not improve a relationship but ruins it instead.

Here are 10 signs you are an obsessive partner

1. You only talk about your partner to your friends

Showing your friends you have a working relationship is very good. As a female, when the only thing you have to say when your girlfriends are talking about having fun at a party is that your boyfriend also likes to have fun at a party, there might be a problem. For a man, if you constantly find a way to include your girlfriend in a ‘guy topic’, you have an obsession and it is not the healthy type.

2. Your phone is filled with pictures of you two

Do you take so many selfies on your phone and your partner’s just to assure yourself you are really the one? Or are the only pictures on your phone that of your partner and you? If this is your case, it’s important to indulge in something other than your partner because it is clear you are obsessed.

3. You get anxious when your partner does not text or call

Can you go five minutes without sending a text, a BlackBerry message, Facebook message or WhatsApp? If you are in this situation, you are going overboard. This is especially true if you get upset when your partner fails to answer within five seconds. Sending messages is okay in moderation, but you have to draw the line somewhere.

4. You have to be aware of your partner’s movement

If you know your partner’s whereabouts, it’s good because it gives you assurance in the relationship. However, if you have to be constantly aware of where your partner is and what he is doing, there is more to your love story.

5. You ignore your friends and family

If you are neglecting your family and friends in favour of spending time with your partner, you have got a big problem. When you start prioritising your boyfriend over everything, you are exhibiting symptoms of obsession.

6. There is no room for privacy in your relationship

Privacy is important in a relationship. If you notice you are the type that has to do everything with your partner in the name of bonding, you are definitely obsessive. If you do not give your partner access to a ‘me’ time, you are out of control.

7. You are dependent on your partner.

If you depend on your partner for everything or find it difficult making any decision without the consent of your partner, you have a problem and it is not an indecisive attitude. When you cannot go out alone or treat yourself to a nice time without your partner, think twice about what kind of relationship you are in.

8. You are extremely jealous

An obsessive person is also extremely jealous. Nothing sits well with an obsessive partner. A casual laugh with somebody of the opposite sex might throw them into a confusing state. If you find out you cannot bear the thought of your partner having a friend apart from you, you are unmistakably obsessive.

9. You cannot stay apart for too long

If you find yourself feeling very uneasy when your partner is not around or you feel the need to be with him/her by all means possible, you might need to see a psychiatrist because that is not normal. It is over the top if you constantly think your partner is not with you because he/ she is cheating on you.

10. You get too defensive

When you attack people for simply poking harmless fun at your partner, you are not just obsessive, you may be violent.
