There is hope for a species that was on the verge of extinction.
A group of biologists in Australia is overjoyed because their attempts to spread the species appear to have been successful.
Recently, ecologists at Australia’s Mt Gibson Wildlife Sanctuary discovered an incredible discovery.
In the refuge, they discovered a litter of newborn and spiny small animals.
But these are not ordinary animals. They are classified as “western quolls,” a species of marsupial carnivores.
Previously, the species was found all throughout Australia, but since the first Europeans arrived, its population has plummeted considerably.
Western quolls, sometimes known as chuditchs, are currently found exclusively in the southwestern portion of Australia, in tiny groups.
This marsupial species develops to be roughly the size of a cat and has a large ecological impact. They assist to manage the numbers of smaller invertebrates, reptiles, and birds.
