Bedbugs are a stubborn and unwelcome nuisance that can disturb both your sleep and peace of mind. If you’re seeking a natural and effective solution, try this method using a popular household staple: essential oils combined with baking soda.
What You’ll Need To Prepare
Essential oil (like tea tree, lavender, or eucalyptus): These oils have powerful insect-repelling properties.
Baking soda: Known for its ability to dehydrate and kill pests.
Spray bottle
Vacuum cleaner
Steps to Get Rid of Bedbugs
Step 1:
Wash your bedding in hot water (at least 60°C or 140°F). Heat kills bedbugs and their eggs. Dry the sheets on the highest heat setting.
Step 2
Mix 10–15 drops of your chosen essential oil with 500 ml (16 oz) of water in a spray bottle. Shake well.
Step 3:
After washing, spray the essential oil solution lightly over your mattress, sheets, and any crevices where bedbugs might hide.
Sprinkle a thin layer of baking soda over the mattress and leave it for several hours.
Step 4:
Use a vacuum cleaner to remove the baking soda along with any bedbugs or eggs. Focus on seams, edges, and corners of the mattress.
Repeat
For persistent infestations, repeat this process every few days until all signs of bedbugs are gone.
Why This Works
Essential oils: Their strong scent deters bedbugs and disrupts their ability to communicate and breed.
Baking soda: Absorbs moisture from bedbugs, ultimately dehydrating and k-i-lling them.
Additional Tips
– Encase your mattress and pillows in protective covers to prevent bedbugs from burrowing.
– Reduce clutter around your bed to eliminate hiding spots.
– Use a steamer to treat infested areas with high heat.
