A married couple was shopping at a busy mall when the wife suddenly turned around and realized her husband was nowhere to be seen.
She checked the time and immediately grabbed her phone.
“Where the hell are you?” she demanded.
“We need to get home soon, and you’ve wandered off like a lost child!”
Her husband replied calmly,
“Sweetheart, do you remember that jewelry store we visited about 20 years ago, when we first got married?”
Her tone instantly changed.
“Yes… of course I remember.”
“You fell completely in love with that beautiful diamond necklace in the window.”
The wife went silent.
“I couldn’t afford it back then,” he continued, “but I promised you that one day, I’d buy it for you.”
Her heart started racing.
She suddenly felt a tear forming in her eye.
After 20 years of marriage, was this finally the moment?
“Yes,” she whispered emotionally. “I remember that store.”
There was a short pause.
Then her husband said,
“Well… I’m standing in the gun shop right next door to it.”
Silence.
The wife slowly lowered her phone.
“Twenty years…”
Then she muttered:
“I should’ve married the necklace.”
