It can be tough to cope with your parents’ divorce, but this woman never felt the pinch because of the fact that her parents decided to be kind to each other for her sake.
Accordingly, Codie LaChelle McPhate had a surprisingly positive story to share. She expressed how her parents handled their divorce changed her life. The woman illustrated her parents’ beautiful relationship through a Facebook post that has now been deleted. However, the story quickly went viral on social media and then many others shared this heartfelt post. That was a picture of her dad mowing her mother’s lawn. This was remarkable because her parents had been divorced for 28 years. She described how amazing it was to watch their relationship remain strong in spite of the divorce, to the point where her father was willing to mow his ex-wife’s lawn when she needed his help.
Codie felt like she was blessed to have such parents who understood how their divorce would affect her, and their constant support helped her power through the new phase in her life. Through the post on Facebook, Codie demonstrated how her parents were still thoughtful toward each other even after the split, which makes her feel like the luckiest girl out there.
“My mom has bad knees, and my stepdad works out of town. When my younger siblings questioned, ‘Why is your dad mowing mom’s lawn?’ I told them, ‘Because, she needed help, and he knew she couldn’t get out here to do it, so he did.'” , Codie explained. Her father had come to see her while on vacation and that was when he decided to help his ex-wife with her chores.
Codie feels like she’s carried her parents’ positive and healthy behavior into her adulthood, which reveals that she greatly benefited from their amicable relationship with each other even after their divorce.
Codie explained, “This is co-parenting. This is how lucky I am to have 4 parents who respect each other, and know that at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is showing your children (Even ones that are 32 years old) how to treat people, and how to love your family, no matter how it came together.”
People reading the story applauded her parents’ decision to put their children first. Some of them were inspired to share their own stories of divorce and how rough the ride was for them, while some other people chimed in with co-parenting stories of their own. There were even calls for the family to go on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, as the famous comedian and talk-show host is often known to celebrate Good Samaritans on her show. This just goes to show that a simple act of kindness goes a long way.
