Hairdresser Refuses to Shave Depressed Teen’s Hair, Instead Gives People a “Lesson” With 13-Hour Haircut

A hairdresser is touching the hearts of people across the world for her act of kindness towards an extremely depressed client.

Kayley Olsson, a hairdresser at Capri Waterloo, in Waterloo, Iowa, says on Monday, August 7, a girl came into her shop with matted, tangled, and dirty hair, asking Olsson to just shave it all off. This is one of the hardest experiences” Kayley has ever had with a client. She detailed it in a post on Facebook.

“I had a 16-year[-old] girl come in who has been dealing with severe depression for a few years now. She got to the point where she felt so down and so worthless she couldn’t even brush her hair, she told me she only got up to use the restroom.”

The teen told Kayley that she had school pictures the next day and couldn’t so much as run a comb through it without hurting herself. Then she told Kayley to “just cut it off,” as to not deal with the pain of combing it out.

“She called herself worthless for it,” Kayley writes.

Hearing the young girl explain how she felt about herself broke Kayley’s heart. She and her colleague, Mariah Wenger, did everything they could to keep the girl’s hair for her.

Kayley says she wants this client’s situation to be a “lesson” to others:

“Mental health is a thing, it affects people all around the world and of all ages! Parents take it serious don’t just push your kids off and tell them to get over something they legitimately can’t. A child should NEVER feel so worthless to not even want to brush their hair.”

The teen spent eight hours in Kayley’s chair on Monday, and five hours on Tuesday.

“We finally made this beautiful girl smile and feel like she IS worth something!”

As the teen was leaving, she told Kayley, “I will actually smile for my schools pictures today, you made me feel like me again.”

Depression IS real. It isn’t choosey in who it attacks, and like Satan himself, it comes to steal, ᴋɪʟʟ and destroy.

All the praise for this wonderful hairdresser for seeing this teen’s true worth, and going out of her way to kick depression to the curb.
