Bride drops d.e.a.d of a heart attack at her wedding in India – so her SISTER marries the groom instead after families made ‘tough call’ to carry on with the festivities
Bride dies of heart attack at her wedding in India – so her SISTER marries the groom instead
A family went through a strange mix of emotions as two people tied the knot whilst one of their loved ones lay d.e.a.d in the next room. The day began with family members gathering together to see the wedding of bride, SB, and groom, MK, in the Indian State of Uttar Pradesh. Things were going just as planned until the bride collapsed right in the middle of the rituals.
A doctor from the local village was called to the scene but was unable to save her.
But rather than call a halt to proceedings, families of both parties agreed to continue with the wedding ceremony by replacing the bride with her sister, NS. SB’s body was kept in a separate room while the festivities took place and she was later cremated.
One of SB’s uncles, AS, told MailOnline it was a ‘tough call’ for the family to carry on with the wedding.
In India, arranged marriages are extremely common and “they wanted to keep it in the family,” said RP about the reason the families got the younger sister married to the groom, according to USA TODAY. “So much vetting goes into matching families in marriages and it is natural for the families to want to stay together,” said RP, who is the founder of Single to Shaadi, a South Asian matchmaking website.
RP also revealed that her own mother went through a similar situation years back. After her aunt died during childbirth, her mother was asked by their parents if she would accept her brother-in-law as her husband. But RP’s mother refused to do so.
Following the wedding between NS and MK, SB’s other brother, Gaurav spoke about the grief their mother was going through. “Mummy is in a lot of pain,” he told the Daily Mail. “She calls for her day in and day out as she was the eldest daughter. She had dreamed of doing wonders in her life. May she rest in peace.”
