Singer Courtney Love is no stranger to making headlines.
Throughout her long career, she has frequently been in the news.
Now, at 60 years old, she has publicly shared details about her “big move,” what it involves, and the inspiration behind it.
Courtney Love has been residing in London for the past five years and is now planning to make the city her permanent home. The former Hole frontwoman revealed that in just six months, she will be eligible for British citizenship. With the political climate in the U.S. becoming increasingly intense, Love seems pleased about her opportunity to relocate.
She openly expressed her enthusiasm for living in London. “I’m really happy here. It’s amazing to live in this city. In six months, I’ll finally become a British citizen. I’m applying, man! You can’t get rid of me,” she reportedly said.
While she didn’t explicitly state that her move was a direct reaction to Donald Trump’s presidency, she has previously been vocal about her disapproval of him. She once compared his political approach to “emperor-core” and described the situation in the U.S. as “frightening.”
“Regarding Trump and this whole group… it’s like emperor-core. They’re flaunting million-dollar watches. Mar-a-Lago is at the center of this whole emperor-core culture,” she remarked.
Love originally relocated from Los Angeles to London in October 2019.
In a 2022 interview, she highlighted what she appreciates about the city: “Laws. No guns. Four seasons. Discourse. Middle-aged women get more respect here. Discretion.”
By 2024, she reaffirmed her love for London in another interview. “I’m an Anglophile. London is my favorite city—it’s the best place I’ve ever lived. I’m left alone, some laws protect me when I speak my mind, and I love the friends I’ve made here.”
Love isn’t the only celebrity seeking a life outside the U.S.
Earlier this month, Rosie O’Donnell revealed that she had moved to Ireland with her 12-year-old child and was in the process of obtaining citizenship.
“I never thought I’d leave the U.S., but this was the best decision for me and my child,” O’Donnell explained in a TikTok video. “We’re happy. Clay is happy. Of course, I miss my other kids, my friends, and many aspects of life back home. But I’m trying to find a sense of home here in this beautiful country. When equal rights are truly secured for all citizens in America, that’s when we’ll consider returning.”
She hinted that her decision to leave was influenced by political changes, stating, “It’s been heartbreaking to witness what’s happening politically. It’s also been deeply personal for me. As we all know, the personal is political.”
Last year, Ellen DeGeneres also made the move abroad.
She and her wife, Portia de Rossi, relocated to England.
“Ellen was house-hunting in England in early October. She found a home she fell in love with and purchased it soon after,” a source revealed.
