Alzheimer’s disease is among the most insidious and painful diseases that strike old age.
The disease with various severity ultimately inevitably takes away what is most precious in each of us: the memories and experiences that have helped shape us. The disease upsets family balance and leaves an indelible mark not only on the person who suffers from it, but also on those close to them.
The video we want to show you today is about the last anchor that still holds an elderly woman with Alzheimer’s disease in this world: her love for her husband, which has never faded like the rest of her memories.
The video posted on TikTok by his granddaughter Catalina shows her grandfather is combing his hair and getting ready to visit his wife in her room.
He is 86, while his wife is 82, they have been married for 56 years and have been through it all, for better and for worse.
In recent years, life challenged them, making the woman sick. Unfortunately, although many experimental treatments are in progress, no definitive solution has yet been found for Alzheimer’s disease, which continues to take many victims, including loved ones, every year.
“My grandfather gets dressed every morning to visit my grandmother in her room,” says Catalina, the granddaughter. “They have been married for 56 years. My grandmother fell ill more than 15 years ago. Although she has lost her memory and all her memories, my grandfather is still her familiar face.”
“It’s his daily routine. We think that’s what keeps her with us. If someone asked me what love is, I would tell you to look at my grandparents. That look says it all without having to say anything,” Catalina added.

In the video, the grandmother clearly recognizes her husband and smiles again as she looks him in the eye and he tries to make her laugh with a joke.
Of course, the elderly man is well aware that this fleeting moment of happiness could fade away at any moment, as his beloved wife might cease to recognize him, but as long as there is that living flame in his eyes, he will continue to be there for her: “Never stop looking at me”, he tells her tenderly.
