Lindsay Mains praised the stranger because of his kindhearted gesture towards the mum, her husband Nick and daughter Olive when they travelled together on a plane for the first time since their daughter Luna left her life.
Travelling with young children can be stressful at the best of times. For one family, this was even more emotional after their two-year-old daughter had left her life just a few months earlier.
However, what they expected would be a difficult time was made wonderful by a stranger’s act of kindness.
Lindsay Mains went viral on social media after she shared the sweet note a stranger handed the mum and her husband Nick during the flight.
She explained on TikTok that the couple’s two-year-old daughter Luna breathed her last in July, after being diagnosed with blood c.a.n.c.e.r.
Naturally, this devastating loss is something that Lindsay, her husband Nick and daughter Olive are still coming to terms with.
Recently they decided to take a flight to see family – and ended up having a very emotional journey, thanks to fellow passenger named Richard.
During the flight, he handed Lindsay and Nick a card. On this card, he had written: “My name is Richard. I have four kids and I can tell you guys are great parents. Patient and kind, the world needs that.
“Just wanted to say that. God Bless, RJ.”
Lindsay explained: “Sometimes you need to be reminded of the goodness in the world. After losing our youngest in July we finally took a cross country flight to see our family.
“We got on the plane full of heaviness knowing we were going to our home away from home but we weren’t able to bring our youngest daughter with us.
“We knew tantrums were inevitable but have been trying to support our oldest in learning tools to handle her big feelings and grief.
“This means tantrums can last for some time while she works through all of those big feelings.
“We looked at each other and decided our relationship with her was more important on this day than our relationship with the strangers on the plane.
“But as I prepared for angry looks or comments Richard reached across the aisle and handed us this handwritten note that made me cry and totally turned our whole day around.
“Be a Richard in a world of Karens… reach across the aisle and remember that you never know what people are going through.”
The video left people in tears, and many people then shared similar stories of kindness they encountered unexpectedly.
“It’s simple, be kind. You don’t know what other people are going through. Thank you Richard for showing this family grace and love.”, one mum wrote.
Another wrote: “My son was having a tantrum mid-flight and the lady next to us let him use her iPad to calm him.”
