After finding a note from her 6-year-old son who ᴅɪᴇᴅ from an ᴀᴍᴏᴇʙɪᴄ ɪɴғᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ, a mother took to Facebook to post a message in his honor.
In 2015, Little Leland Shoemake, of Pike County, Georgia, fell ill and was admitted to hospital.
Doctors at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta were initially unsure of what was wrong with Leland when he came in puking with a headache and fever.
However, they eventually discovered that he had contracted the ᴀᴍᴏᴇʙᴀ ʙᴀʟᴀᴍᴜᴛʜɪᴀ ᴍᴀɴᴅʀɪʟʟᴀʀɪs — a rare brain infection that could have been acquired from playing outside.
While he was at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta hospital in Egleston, his mom Amber and dad Tim stayed at his bedside.
Despite intensive treatment, the little boy ᴘᴀssᴇᴅ ᴀᴡᴀʏ at the tender age of just 6 years old, leaving his parents and younger brother inconsolable.
The parents returned home, grief-stricken and numb after sitting by their son’s hospital bedside.
Packing his clothes for the fᴜɴᴇʀᴀʟ, they found his note, which read: ‘Stil (sic) with you… Thank you mom and dad… Love.’ He also drew a red heart that contained three words: mom, dad and love.
“We were in sʜᴏᴄᴋ and broke down as soon as we saw it. He was amazing in life and still is after his ᴘᴀssɪɴɢ.” Amber, Leland’s mother told ABC News.
The mom spoke about how he had a positive impact on everyone while was he was alive and still does even after his ᴘᴀssɪɴɢ.
He touched everyone he met and we are amazed at how many lives he’s touched since he left us,”
