Marriage Tip #47: Sometimes Silence Is a Strategy
Two d*af men were sitting in a quiet café, chatting in sign language about life, marriage, and all the little challenges that come with it.
After a while, one of them leaned forward, clearly a bit frustrated, and began signing more animatedly.
“Last night was exhausting,” he said.
“My wife was upset about something… and she just kept going. On and on. She wouldn’t stop.”
He shook his head, rolling his eyes slightly.
“I tried to stay calm, but it felt like it went on forever.”
His friend watched him, nodding in understanding, then calmly took a sip of his coffee.
“I know exactly what you mean,” he signed.
The first man looked relieved.
“Really? So what do you do when that happens?”
The second man smiled — slow, confident, like someone who had already solved this problem years ago.
“It’s simple,” he replied.
The first man leaned in, curious.
“I just don’t listen.”
A pause.
The first man frowned slightly, confused.
“How do you not listen?”
The second man leaned back, completely relaxed, and signed:
“It’s easy! I turn off the light!”
