In 2019, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, made a surprising alteration to a vital element of their son Archie’s birth certificate.
The family has been in the spotlight since their relationship was revealed, and fans have been glued to every new revelation.
To refresh your memory, Meghan and Harry began dating in 2016 and announced their relationship the same year.
They were clearly in love and announced their engagement in November 2017 before marrying in a televised ceremony at Windsor Castle in 2018.
The duchess confirmed her first pregnancy the following year, and their son, Archie, was born in 2019.
Despite Meghan’s membership in the royal family implying a future of optimism and progress, her being a woman of colour sparked controversy, with tabloids publishing nasty headlines.
And with revelations that the couple changed a vital item on their son’s birth certificate, the situation is certain to worsen.
Born on May 6, 2019, his birth was registered 11 days later, with an alteration made on June 5.
Archie’s birth certificate no longer lists ‘Rachel Meghan Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex’ as his mother, but instead simply ‘Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex’.
The Sun put it this way: “The unprecedented move could be seen as a snub to the Cambridges who have included Kate’s names on her children’s certificates.”
This was later proven inaccurate, as royal reporter Omid Scobie shared a statement from a spokesman for Meghan, which read: “The Palace dictated the change of name on public documents in 2019.”
Later, it clarifies: “This was not dictated by Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, nor the Duke of Sussex.”
In 2020, Meghan and Harry choose to stand down from their obligations as senior royals, which appears to be the source of the pair’s issue.
Following a flurry of negative news following their marriage, the most stunning revelation was still to come.
Following the birth of their daughter, Lilibet (a nickname for the late Queen Elizabeth), the couple spoke with Oprah Winfrey in an exclusive interview.
Meghan revealed that a member of the royal household made disparaging remarks about how black Archie’s skin would be while she was pregnant.
She also stated that her treatment, including that of the press, had a significant influence on her mental health.
The couple subsequently elected to leave the spotlight and work and reside in Los Angeles, where they manage their non-profit organization Archewell.
