Melania Trump’s approach to the holiday season has once again drawn public attention. This time, discussion centered on a $90 brass ornament released alongside the official 2025 White House Christmas decorations.
The ornament, titled “American Star,” is part of a six-item collection connected to her ongoing holiday-themed merchandise. Shortly after its release, online reactions questioned the timing and messaging of offering a premium-priced decorative item during the holiday season.
Discussion Around Holiday Merchandise
Some commentators viewed the ornament as an extension of broader branding efforts associated with the Trump era, noting previous merchandise tied to public life. The American Star ornament—crafted from brass, finished in red, white, and blue, and bearing Melania Trump’s signature—became a focal point for debate on social media.
While reactions varied, the conversation highlighted differing expectations around public figures and commercial products connected to national traditions.

The 2025 White House Decorations
In contrast, Melania Trump’s 2025 holiday theme, “Home Is Where the Heart Is,” was widely described as more restrained and accessible than some past displays. The décor emphasized familiar and symbolic elements, including natural-looking Christmas trees, children’s toys, and patriotic motifs. Lego portraits and playful installations added a family-oriented tone.
Due to East Wing renovations, the annual holiday tour route was shorter than usual. Even so, the decorations remained extensive and carefully curated, featuring:
- 51 Christmas trees
- 75 wreaths with red bows
- 700 feet of garland
- 25,000 feet of ribbon
- 10,000 blue butterfly accents
The Blue Room displayed an 18-foot Christmas tree decorated with 3D-printed ornaments representing each U.S. state, while the Green Room highlighted classic toys. The Red Room’s blue butterfly installation drew particular interest for its symbolic design.
Visitors also encountered a 20-pound gingerbread White House, crimson-colored trees, and Lego portraits of figures such as Donald Trump and George Washington.

Public Reaction
Overall, the 2025 White House holiday décor aimed to balance tradition with symbolic storytelling. However, the release of the American Star ornament sparked discussion about commercialization, privilege, and expectations surrounding public holiday celebrations.
As in previous years, Melania Trump’s holiday choices generated both appreciation and debate—underscoring how seasonal displays at the White House continue to reflect broader cultural conversations.
