The first lady issued an official statement this week, reacting to concerns that she had disappeared after not appearing in public since her husband Donald Trump’s inauguration last month.
The 54-year-old was a prominent figure at Trump’s inauguration in January, wearing an ornate piece of headwear that quickly sparked speculation.
Since then, Melania has not been seen in public or at any events.
She first missed to attend a meeting between Trump and numerous global leaders earlier this month (4 February), which included Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, and Jordan’s King Abdullah.
Melania then reportedly missed a formal dinner held by Trump for Republican senators and their wives at Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
She also chose not to attend the Super Bowl last weekend, where her husband made history as the first sitting president to attend.
Melania has likewise not posted anything on her social media accounts since January.
However, the First Lady has now broken her silence, confirming that she has not disappeared after all.
Melania’s office stated on Wednesday (12 February) implying that she is doing well by pointing directly to the reopening of the White House for public tours after its initial closure.
“The President and I are excited to reopen the White House to those interested in the extraordinary story of this iconic and beautiful landmark,” her latest message read.
“There is much to learn about the American Presidency, the First Families who have lived here, and our Nation’s rich history from a firsthand experience at the White House.”
She continued her statement by explaining: “This opportunity is unique among nations around the globe—a tradition we are honored to continue for the hundreds of thousands of visitors who come each year.”
Melania’s announcement comes only weeks after she disclosed that she will spend the next four years dividing her time between three different destinations during her husband’s administration.
Last month (13 January), she spoke with Fox News about her and her son’s living arrangements, revealing that she would be alternating between Washington, D.C., New York City (where son Barron presently attends university), and Palm Beach, Florida.
Melania explained at the time: “I will be in the White House. And when I need to be in New York, I will be in New York. When I need to be in Palm Beach, I will be in Palm Beach.
“My first priority is to be a mum, to be a first lady, to be a wife.”
