A mum has given birth to a ‘mini sumo wrestler’ baby girl who weighs a staggering 13lb.
Emma Millar along with her partner Daniel, welcomed Remi Frances Millar last week, who wasn’t even at full term.
Remi Frances Millar was welcomed into the world by her parents Emma and Daniel Millar at Wollongong Hospital, south of Sydney, on Monday via emergency caesarean, around two weeks early.
Emma, 27, has gestational diabetes and was told by doctors she would be giving birth to a larger than average baby but was stunned at the whopping weight for her newborn.
The couple, from Sydney, were surprised at their baby’s weight, with the average Australian tot tipping the scales at 3.3kg (7.2lbs) while Remi weighed 5.88kg (12.9lbs) at 38 weeks and two days.
Meanwhile, the average weight for a newborn baby in the UK is 3.4kg (7.5lb) for a boy and 3.2kg (7.1lb) for a girl.
Emma said: “She’s like a mini sumo wrestler.
“Our other children just adore Remi, who is really healthy and content and just thriving.”
When Emma was just 35 weeks, an ultrasound revealed she weighed 8.81lb.
Despite this Mr and Ms Millar didn’t expect her to grow any more.
Remi was is though to be the heaviest newborn at hospital.
And the couple have been forced to buy heaps of new clothes for their arrival, with the baby outfits they had already purchased being too small
Emma, who is recovering from an emergency cesarean due to her waters breaking early, says she “couldn’t have handled” a natural birth with Remi.
The mum-of-three has also been told she can’t lift anything weighing more than her 6kg daughter during her recovery.
