Meghan Markle attended a high-powered business event in New York over the weekend, but royal admirers were not pleased with one aspect.
Meghan Markle looked effortlessly chic while attending an event in New York over the weekend, but royal admirers had one thing to say.
The Duchess of Sussex attended the G9 Ventures Summer Summit, sponsored by power broker Amy Griffin, and was photographed with entrepreneur Jamie Kern Lima, designer Misha Nonoo, and cosmetics mogul Bobbi Brown.
G9 Ventures is a women-led venture capital investment firm based in New York that focuses on and invests in early-stage companies that “empower the consumer to live, look, and feel better.”
Her shoes were not visible but she accessorised the outfit with her signature jewellery, Cartier’s -Juste un Clou necklace (£15,500), the same brand’s gold Tank Française watch (£28,200) and yellow gold Love bracelet (£7,050), Ariel Gordon’s Imperial disc pendant necklace (£1,979) and Lorraine Schwartz’s Against Evil Eye Five Eye diamond pave bracelet (£16,000).
She also donned Heidi Merrick’s Santa Barbara sunglasses in black (£172).
However, royal fans pointed out on social media that the duchess’ trousers needed altering because they were “too long” for her.
On X, one user commented, “Nice pieces but designed and made for someone taller.”
Another echoed the first: “Holy Mother of God, are there no tailors in Santa Barbara County?!?!”
A third person stated, “This incredibly daring ensemble must be fitted properly! I wonder why she doesn’t utilize(sic) a seamstress? It really makes no sense when she clearly aims to shock & amaze the fashion world!”
A fourth one asked: “Is Megan’s top backless? I don’t dislike what she is wearing. I wish it was tailored to fit her.”
A fifth person commented: “Not crazy about the top but I can deal with it. Still can’t understand wearing trousers that long, I don’t even understand how you can safely walk in them. They’re a tripping hazard.”
Other celebrities that attended the event were make-up artist Victoria Jackson, actresses Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon, and Laura Dern, and broadcaster Katie Couric.
It comes as Meghan prepares to hard launch her own lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, with an official release date yet unknown.
ARO is believed to sell a variety of products under its brand name, including homemade jam, dog biscuits, and other homewares.
