The Farm Boy Was Banned from Bacon, Eggs, and Milk for Hurting the Animals. Then His Father Walked into the Kitchen.
Little Johnny bounded downstairs into the kitchen, eagerly looking forward to a massive farm breakfast.
Since the family lived on a bustling countryside farm, his mother looked up from the stove and asked, “Johnny, did you finish all of your morning chores yet?”
“Not yet,” Johnny mumbled, rubbing his eyes.
His mother crossed her arms firmly. “Well, there will be absolutely no breakfast for you until every single animal out there is fed.”
Thoroughly annoyed and throwing a quiet temper tantrum, Johnny stormed out to the barnyard. He marched over to feed the chickens, and in a fit of frustration, he aggressively kicked one of the hens. Still angry, he went over to feed the pigs and kicked a pig right in the side. Finally, he went to tend to the cattle, and he kicked a helpless cow.
Feeling like he had blown off enough steam, he headed back inside the house and sat down at the dining table. His mother calmly walked over and set down a single bowl of completely dry cereal.
Johnny stared at the bowl, horrified. “What is this? How come I don’t get any crispy bacon and fresh fried eggs? And why on earth isn’t there any milk in my cereal?”
His mother leaned over the counter and glared at him. “Well, young man, I happened to look out the window and saw you kick a chicken, so you are banned from eating eggs for a week. I also saw you kick the pig, so you don’t get any bacon for a week, either. And since you decided to kick the cow, you aren’t getting a single drop of milk for the next seven days.”
Just as Johnny was digesting this devastating news, the kitchen door swung open. His father trudged into the room, groggy and incredibly grumpy from a lack of sleep. Spotting the family cat sleeping right in the middle of the floor, the father wound up his boot and kicked the poor cat halfway across the kitchen.
The entire room went dead silent.
Little Johnny slowly turned his head away from his dry cereal, looked up at his mother with a massive, mischievous grin, and whispered:
“Are you going to tell him the bad news, Mom… or should I?”
