Trump reveals nickname for US ambassador to Greece who was engaged to his son

Donald Trump shared an unusual personal nickname for the U.S. ambassador to Greece during a Greek Independence Day celebration held at the White House.

Kimberly Guilfoyle—formerly engaged to Donald Trump Jr.—was appointed to the role last September and joined the president at this week’s event.

During the ceremony, Trump invited her on stage and revealed the nickname he uses for her.

“Kimberly… Kimberly Guilfoyle,” he said. “I like calling her ‘Kimber-lay’—that’s my little pet name. But you’re fantastic, and I’ve heard they really appreciate you over there. Hopefully, you’ll return here in 12 years—or whenever your term ends.”

Guilfoyle and Donald Trump Jr. ended their six-year engagement in December 2024—the same month she was nominated as ambassador following Trump’s 2024 election win.

Before that, Guilfoyle had been married to Gavin Newsom from 2001 to 2006. She is now in a relationship with businessman Eric Villency.

US–Greece Relationship Highlighted

In a statement celebrating Greek Independence Day, the White House emphasized the long-standing ties between the United States and Greece, describing the connection as rooted in both ancient and modern history.

The release noted that America’s founding principles were heavily influenced by Greek philosophers and leaders, shaping the nation’s democratic foundations. It also highlighted Greece’s lasting cultural impact on areas such as art, architecture, language, literature, and education.

Greek American communities were praised for enriching U.S. society through traditions centered on family, faith, hospitality, and civic values.

Strategic and Military Cooperation

The administration also described Greece as an important NATO ally and expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for continued cooperation across sectors including energy, technology, logistics, and defense.

The statement pointed to the ongoing U.S. naval presence at Souda Bay and joint military training efforts as key elements strengthening security and stability in Europe.

It concluded by honoring Greek independence and celebrating the shared commitment between both nations to democracy, prosperity, and peace.
